I’ve been reading up on the Polestar 3 specs and wondering if I might have made a big mistake with my preorder choices.

I skipped the Performance Pack to save on range and budget (it’s a $5000 add-on), but I couldn’t resist the 22” wheels upgrade for $2500, just really don’t like the look of the standard 21” wheels. But here’s the kicker: one review suggested that the Performance Pack doesn’t actually change much mechanically; it’s just a software boost. And the kicker on range loss? Apparently, it might be more about those 22” wheels than the performance boost itself.

So here’s my question: Does the range loss come more from the 22” wheels or the Performance Pack? If the wheels are already chipping away at my range, maybe I should just go all-in with the Performance Pack and get the extra boost plus that awesome gold trim and wood interior. And has anyone been able to make changes this far along in the preorder process?

The 22” wheels likely contribute more to range loss than the Performance Pack. You should consider the impact of both before deciding.

The performance pack and upgrade only hurt range if you use the performance mode. Otherwise, it's not a big deal. Those bigger wheels are heavy and suck up a lot of energy. If you look at the P2 range calculator, you'll see that the 19-inch wheels are much better for range.
