HomeLink chamberlain liftmaster not cooperating

Been trying to program my Chamberlain Liftmaster remote to my car's HomeLink, but it's not working. I know I have the security feature on the Liftmaster, so I've followed the instructions to the letter - pressing the "Learn" button and then the Liftmaster remote button within 3 inches. I've even tried doing it multiple times in a row, but no luck.

Has anyone else had trouble with this? Is there something I'm missing?

I’ve got a Liftmaster myself and recall diving into the Chamberlain manual for help. It was a bit of a gamble, but I got it right on the first go - talk about beginner’s luck!
